Dr. Stpephan Praet is Sport and Exercise Physician from Netherlands. He received his medical training at the Virje University of Amsterdam, following a Master’s Degree in Huma Movement Sciences at the same university. Stephan subsequently specialized in Sport and Exercise medicine at the Netherlands Institute for the Training of Specialist in Sports Medicine. He works as a consultatn physicia/specialst doctor in Sport & Exercise Medicine at Erasmus University Medical Centre, Rijndam Rehabilitation Institute and ZorgSaam Hospitals Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, the Netherlands.
In spritng 2015 Dr Prate imigrated to Australia to take up a position as a consulta Sport & Exercise Medicine at the Australian Institute of Sport. He was resposible for the clinical management of high performance athlete’s injuries and illnesses.
From November 2017 Dr. Praet works in private practice as a consultant in Sport & Exercise Medicine at Ochre Health Medical Centre at Bruce, at the University of Canberra Health precinct together with Dr. Steve Freeman.
As a previous middle-distance runner and physician he understands athletes’ frustrations of being injured and the importance of supporting both healthy people and patients in maintaining (or regaining) an active and injury-free lifestyle.
Dr. Praet has co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters and has been involved in a wide array of research projects on the clinical application of exercise testing and exercise prescription in Metabolic Syndrome, Type 2 diabetes, Cancer cachexia and Mitochondrial myopathy patients.
